It’s mid-October and there’s a cool breeze floating through the Carmel Mountains. With this fresh air comes fresh faces from all over the world. The incoming class of international students at the University of Haifa has arrived on campus for the start of the 2015-2016 academic year.
These days if you walk through the halls of the International School in the Student Building, you hear accents that come from the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia. Students whose lives were separated by thousands of miles of land and sea are here together for their studies. They bring with them their cultures, their passions, their styles of dress, their stories, and some interesting surprises to share. Just yesterday I walked by a Chinese student speaking to an American in fluent Hebrew and Yiddish!
There’s already been a tour of Haifa, lectures including welcoming words from Dean of Students Hanan Alexander and Head of the International School Tzameret Zohar, and a night of Israeli dancing. There’s lots more to come and we are very excited for all that this year will bring.
Wishing the new class of international students lots of luck as they begin the new school year!
