The Director of the International School’s Israel Studies MA program Professor Gur Alroey recently spoke on an Israeli national talk show called London et Kirshenbaum. This current events news show airs on one of Israel’s main television stations, Channel 10.
Not only is Professor Alroey a part of the Israel Studies faculty, he is also the Chair of the School of History at the University of Haifa and an expert on modern migration. Alroey joined the talk show to comment on the current migration and refugee situation in Europe. He provided insights on this wave of migration, explaining that given the difficulties of the journey, not all families migrate at once. Therefore, the majority of current migrants are young males, while many women and children are left behind. This opened a conversation about the costliness of this migration, its effects on the migrant population, and what this may mean for Europe in the future.
